Painting Questions, Opening Dialogues
Hello — I’m Kevin. Thank you for taking the time to explore my work.
My path into art followed a long career in IT and decades of volunteering in mental health, environmental, and social causes. These experiences shaped my perspective — grounded, curious, and often questioning — and they continue to influence how I think and make.
Now based in Endsleigh, in the Tamar Valley, I focus primarily on abstract and conceptual painting. I spend a significant amount of time preparing: researching, reflecting, and editing my thoughts before I begin to paint. I believe art can create space for dialogue — especially around subjects many find difficult or uncomfortable. My aim is to create visual interest that provokes thought, without preaching or being overtly obvious.
I’m interested in how we see, how we avoid seeing, and what happens in the space between. While my work often touches on themes like responsibility, fragility, or complicity, I don’t expect it to solve anything. It’s simply a way of exploring difficult subjects and asking: what do we notice, what do we avoid, and what is my part in this? I’m always open to where the conversation goes from there.
That said, I still enjoy the occasional landscape or portrait. While oils are my primary medium, I also like to experiment with acrylic, watercolour, and digital tools — wherever the idea leads.
