Ama's Bio

Humour, Mythology & Storytelling.

Ama lives in Cornwall with the somewhat aged and gnarly leftovers from her animal shelter in Botswana. Her career in Art and Education spans over thirty years. She is now a full-time artist.

Born and raised in Africa, the continent and her experiences there remain a strong influence in her work. At twenty she was running her own art business, Ngwedi Designs, in Botswana. Ama has painted murals across the world, designed two Botswana stamp editions, and illustrated six books. She has exhibited in Africa and England over the years, selling prolifically.

Ama’s art is a vehicle for humour, magic, mythology, and storytelling.
Working predominantly in oils, watercolour, and mixed media, she draws on dreams, folklore, and her passion for the natural world; expressing the diversity of our experiences and the interaction between what is seen and unseen.

Credentials: Ama achieved a 2:1 BA Hons degree in African & Asian Art & Archaeology at the London School of Oriental & African Studies, with research in the Kalahari. She has a PGCE in secondary Art & Design from the London Institute of Education, an AQA certificate in counselling, certificates in Reiki & Quantum Touch, and is a qualified Drawing & Talking practitioner.
